More stringent requirements by Rijkswaterstaat for welding of orthotropic troughs on steel bridge decks.

With the introduction of the recently published "Annex F of NEN EN 1993-2 NOTE", Rijkswaterstaat tightened the requirements for welded joints between orthotropic troughs on steel bridge decks.
The previously “permitted penetration defect” (MDF) of h2 ≤2mm is reduced to h2 ≤ 1mm. For many manufacturing companies this is a very drastic change and this means that they have to make the transition to a totally new approach with other

welding processes to meet this requirement. LAB Verduyn BV. was consulted to guide this
process to a successful result before the start of the manufacturing of four new 80tons
bridges
for the "Goereese flood gates" by company Spie.
