Duplex overlay welding with "twin wire arc" SA-Welding.

At IHC Merwede at Kinderdijk The Netherlands are currently five carbon steel shafts for dredging purposes Ø720mm welded with a 22% Cr. Duplex layer. Because of the large amount of weld metal and the limited duration of the project, we have chosen for a two wire submerged arc welding process, the so-called "twin wire arc" welding. Because there are two Ø2, 4mm wires welding in the same weld pool, this process gives a very high weld deposit in combination with a high travel speed and weld thickness.
