NMC BV. Nieuw lekkerland awarded the contract of the
company Van Oord, to modify 4 Spudcans of the under
construction being jack-up rig, the "Aeolus". Summarized,
this means that there should be welded 4 flanges to make
the spuds divisible to be mounted together during installation.
Those divisible flanged connection exist out of a STE460QT
100mm forged flange with a diameter of 4500 mm, and should be welded to a 100mm thick steel tube rolled from S690QL1 material. The assembled components have a unit weight of 150 tons. A very complicated job……. so LAB Verduyn BV. was asked to supervise the welding throughout the complete project, according to the DNV OS C-401 rules.
