At this moment hard work is being delivered in the oil state of Qatar to construct a huge new shipyard, partly commissioned by a joint venture between Qatar Gas Transport Company Ltd. (Nakilat) and the Damen Group. In November 2010 the entire construction is to be completed and the construction of the first dock will start. To build this first floating dock according to the local classification of Lloyd's Register quite a few welding procedures are needed and welders should be trained in order to be able to start this project.
The first survey of the construction of the shipyard in Qatar has already taken place and currently I am busy working on the construction of the general welding plan. The last two weeks in September (after the Ramadan) are scheduled to perform as much as 30 welding qualifications on site, varying from shielded metal arc welding,
flux-cored wire welding and submerged arc welding.
